This Privacy Policy explains how the Dhaka Metropolitan Police ("DMP") collects, uses, and protects information gathered through the Hello DMP mobile application. By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.
1 Information We Collect
Information you provide:
Full name and national identity details when filing complaints
Contact information including phone number and email address
Details of incidents, grievances, or reports you submit
Messages sent to the DMP chatbot assistant
Photos, videos, or documents attached to reports
Automatically collected:
Device type, operating system, and device identifiers
Log data: IP address, access times, features used
Location data — only when using the "Nearest Station" feature with your permission
Anonymous usage analytics to improve app performance
2 How We Use Your Information
Processing and investigating complaints and grievances
Locating the nearest police station for you
Improving the App's functionality and service quality
Communicating updates on your submitted reports
Maintaining the security of the App and DMP systems
Fulfilling obligations under Bangladesh law
Statistical analysis to improve public safety (anonymized data only)
3 Legal Basis for Processing
Public task: Processing is necessary for official DMP duties in the public interest.
Consent: Your voluntary submission of information constitutes informed consent.
Legal obligation: DMP may be required by law to collect or share certain data.
Vital interests: In emergencies, data may be processed to protect life.
4 Data Sharing and Disclosure
DMP does not sell or commercially trade your personal data. Information may be shared only with:
Other law enforcement or government agencies for investigations
Bangladesh Judiciary or prosecutors when a case goes to court
Emergency services (hospitals, fire) in life-threatening situations
Authorized technology service providers under strict data agreements
Any party required by a valid court order or applicable law
5 Data Retention
Complaint and report data: Minimum 7 years (law enforcement requirements)
Location data: Deleted when you close the Nearest Station feature
Analytics data: Anonymized, kept up to 2 years
Account and contact information: Duration of use + up to 3 years after
6 Data Security
End-to-end encryption for all data transmitted to DMP servers
Servers hosted within Bangladesh under national data sovereignty rules
Role-based access control — only authorized personnel view sensitive data
Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
Staff training on data protection and confidentiality
Note: No digital system can guarantee absolute security. Please protect your device with a PIN or biometric lock and avoid using the App on shared or public devices.
7 Your Rights
Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erasure: Request deletion, subject to legal retention obligations.
Restrict Processing: Ask DMP to limit how it uses your data.
Withdraw Consent: Withdraw at any time without affecting past processing.
Lodge a Complaint: Contact the relevant data protection authority in Bangladesh.
8 Children's Privacy
Hello DMP is intended for adults (18+). When data relating to a child is submitted through the abuse reporting feature, it is treated with heightened security and access is restricted to authorized child protection officers only. If you believe a child has submitted data without adult supervision, contact us immediately.
9 Third-Party Services
The App may link to external websites or government services. This Privacy Policy applies only to Hello DMP. DMP is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites. Please review their policies separately.

DMP may update this Policy periodically. When material changes are made, users will be notified via an in-app notification and the "Effective Date" will be updated. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
12 Governing Law
This Policy is governed by the laws of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, including the Information and Communication Technology Act (2006), Digital Security Act (2018), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act (2001), and applicable orders from the Bangladesh Police and Ministry of Home Affairs.
